Fight it, Doug. Fight it with all you've got. If things are going to be slow at work, you have time to take it to the man. That's not small change, and your lease says you aren't legally responsibly for it!

Almost was in an accident on the way to work because some dude thought I was going too slow by going five miles above the 25mph speed limit. Just as we reached the point where it transitioned to 45mph (and I mean precisely), I saw him start to merge over into the oncoming lane. Figuring I was already about to give him what he wanted anyway, I sped up to 45. He stayed in the oncoming traffic lane. There were cars coming! By the time he actually started to pass me, we were already both going about 45, ..

The problem is that there seems to be an oversaturation of syncing software out there, and I'm certain something must exist that's user friendly, reliable, and free, but I just don't know how to differentiate them. And even if I were to find a way to distinguish my own attempt at it, there's so many crazy edge cases when it comes to that kind of stuff (so I guess I can understand why the market is so fragmented). Different software can't even always agree on what certain file attributes even mean, and w..

There does seem to be at least a little merit in having someone who hates interacting with strangers man the support lines. It really inspires a dude to work hard to make sure the software can do its best to work around even the most difficult customer. Making the customer happier is just a nice by-product of reducing the number of times people have to call me. / I can't even get mad at some of the people I've dealt with -- it just seems to be a facet of human nature to not actually read instructions. ..

It's 2011! Almost 2012 I guess, maybe I can slap one entry in before the year rolls over. I'm always getting angry at stupid interfaces, so here we go again, pretend I actually update this site! / A decade ago, I did a lot with various Linux type junk, most of my work at college was on some BSD thing, and I have always liked the idea behind free software, apart from the price aspect of it. My major gripe with it, though, was its almost willful disregard for being even slightly user friendly. I don't m..

It was Julia's birthday week (which I had already planned to take time off for) and her brother was running in a marathon there. So instead of a week, I took Wednesday - Monday. Haha, yes, Iceland is pretty random. It was friggin awesome, I think you would like it! I'll be posting up pictures on Facebook as soon as I have time to do so. / / Yes, it's quite a distance to northern Cal. Not quite 8 hours of driving (Google Maps says ~5 hrs), but it would be quite awesome to see. You should come along!..

You seem to have glossed over why you were in Iceland so as to be able to hike there. WHY WERE YOU IN ICELAND. California's not enough for you! / / Isn't it like an 8 hour drive to northern CA? Giant state and all. Volcanoes! / / And yeah, definitely got off easy on the stings, it's surprising there was only one, because as I said, they were crawling all along my arms and hands before I realized what was going on. I guess yellow jackets are less immediately protective than bees?

I've always wanted to see volcanoes, lava fields, and glaciers. Now I've just had a taste. / / One of these days I'm planning a drive to Mount Shasta, which is a huge volcano in northern CA.
But a photograph cannot convey the taste! I've known some gnarly pancakes that nevertheless tasted delicious. In fact, if my memory serves me, I believe while camping with the scouts, my pancakes were known as the "worst looking but best tasting". Of course, that's while camping -- spam is also delicious while camping, so it may not be an accurate assessment.

I don't think that the problem is that they don't deserve due process of law. The problem arises when it comes to under what set of laws the man or woman falls under. People in official military or government units are prosecuted under the Geneva Convention set of international laws. When it comes to people who are not officially contracted by the government of a country, unfortunately, they fall somewhere in the gray area. They are not protected by international community or by their countries, so it is ..

I think the key distinction here, maybe more important than just the morality of it, is that torture yields notoriously unreliable information, and that in practice there are very few situations where it has actually been useful, when compared against the times it has either been useless or even counterproductive from misinformation. / / And I am not opposed to stuff like this because I feel obligated to protect actual psychopaths, but rather that I don't trust anyone to accurately distinguish innocence ..

Yeah, it's always worth it! But a horsefly can be a pretty big damper, especially if one manages to single you out and follow you the entire way -- that made for a much less exciting hike, having to constantly try to swat it away from my face, legs, and arms.
