Much Things

Let me see if I can write something quickly. It's past 11 and I just finished making dinner.

First of all, I found a fantastic confluence of ingredients. Make a roux with pine nuts and some herbs. Add chicken broth. Meanwhile, cook up some chicken, and then steam some broccoli and onions together. Mix all that stuff in with the sauce, and grate some parmesan into there. Maybe add some cream or milk, but the chicken broth is the main liquid already. Put it on some dang pasta, and well look at that it's great.

Anyway! I remember a couple years ago when I started work, after getting off in the evening, I'd spend my time screwing about on the internet, eating dinner, and then screwing about some more. Before you know it, kablam it's time for bed and the day is wasted. I'm certainly trying to avoid that lately, but perhaps I have the opposite problem? I should not be eating dinner at 11, but I don't want to eat it earlier because then I'd be wasting sunlight duh I mean come on.

Today I was down at the creek, trying to find some stuff for the aquarium. I decided to get some bark, maybe some branches, some more rocks, and also perhaps some plants. Well first, let's discuss my previous plant adventure:

I bought an aquatic plant. It was like $5 dang. I put it in a shallow part of the big green frog tank. Before the night was over, one of the frogs stomped that poor plant to bits. I kept hearing splashing and hopping and came over to find it smushed, with captain leaps just furiously jumping all over the tank, but mainly on the plant. Well, I left it there, in hopes it would get better. It didn't.

So I figure why spend more money so they can just be stomped, let me see what I can find. So I got a few plants, and the details are mainly boring. I'll let you know if any survive their feet.

While I was at the creek though, I walked about in the middle of it, as I am often wont to do. Cools mah feets. There was an epic, earth smashing storm last week, though it apparently only hit this one town. I had no power for almost two days. Trees were downed everywhere. Anyway-- the storm had left trees (not just branches) in the creek, and there was a sycamore hanging out all out of its element there, you know, uprooted. I thought, oh what a lovely place to sit, perhaps I shall rest myself a bit with my feet in the water oh wouldn't that be splendid indeed and oh dear lord holy christ aaaaaaaaaaah and I fell into the creek bodily. The thing was positioned as a see-saw, and my weight shifted it off the precarious balance I had carelessly overlooked. And I couldn't just leap off, because there was a fork in the tree, and as it shifted, the tree rotated, bringing the other half of the trunk towards me like a seat restraint on a roller coaster. So I fell into the water. Luckily it was a pretty small tree as far as sycamores go, so it wasn't like I was drowned or impaled or any other thing such as that. I don't think anyone actually saw me, or at least if any did they didn't burst into laughter. How kind.

It was even better that I had my phone out, since I figured I'd catch up on texts or something, and it was precisely the hand holding it that went into the creek first. I ended up taking the battery out and leaving the phone jammed into my car's vents, and it seems to be working fine now. Excellent.

Also, while I was at the pond I came across a rather large fish hanging out in its small contributing stream. I had my little net, but.. I figured it was time to do things the right way. I crouched down and got my hands out and.. missed hopelessly, but he seemed to be lenient and gave me a few more chances, and finally I had the dude wriggling in my hands, holding him against my chest because he was too dang slippery. I was finally able to get a good grip, and I'm pretty sure it was some kind of trout. So, now I've caught two big fish with my bare hands, though this one was actually in the wild, which makes it feel a little bit more of an accomplishment.

Also, I got my hair cut. What did you do today huh.
