Anthrax Everywhere!
Awesome.
It seems like this kind of overreaction is just a necessary effect of society size. The price of not reacting to the threat of the moment is the backlash from the various ignorant folks who believe "doing something" is always better than doing nothing, even if that something is flipping out over flour.
What is not necessary is the blame that is then pointed at whoever left some innocuous substance about, though if you're going to insist that doing something is always better than nothing, I guess it logically follows that blaming someone is better than blaming no one (or themselves for overreacting?).
This sort of nonsense will only increase over time, as the number of possible "threats" can only increase, as will the number of people hiding in their basements scared of them. I can't imagine what could possibly change this trend though, because there will always be people willing to give up their freedom for the perception of security.
