Doug vs. the interweb

I think I need to fully accept that I need to buy a new stereo. I rescued it from being thrown out, and it served me fairly well the last few years, but it has taken to inserting random silence into the middle of CD playback, worsening from once every now and then, to occuring at least twelve times per track. If it flat-out didn't work, I could take it apart and see what I can do, but this appears to just be a symptom of all the moving parts just slowly going to crap, and taking things apart would only worsen it.

I finally caved and hooked up my old portable CD player on top of the thing, since I can't afford a new stereo quite yet. That little thing had served me faithfully for years and years, through college, through my countless walks, and accompanied me on every single commute between home and Hoboken, turning boring trips into endless excitement. It has outlived many, many pairs of earbuds, and so hooking the thing up to the aux input of my stereo, I figured it would leg out a few more spins for me. Except, I had to coax the thing with a gentle hand, and the slightest bump would cause it to shut off entirely. It's throwing out some musix right now, but I am afraid of walking past it for fear that my passing wind might cause further malfunction.

And right next to these fickle little laser optics devices sits a turntable I found on the streets in New York that works just fine.
